And One for Baby Z!

Well…

so far I’ve made crib sheets and bumpers for Baby Z’s room along with rocking chair cushions, window valences and a changing table organizer, but you might notice that there’s something glaringly absent from this list! And that’s because as of yet anyway, there are no clothes on that list.

But that’s all getting ready to change!

BabyZ
After all, Baby Z is 4 months old now and is starting to show a REAL interest in fabrics! (I’m especially excited to see that Baby Z seems to like the combination of black & white in her fabrics!)

Anyway, it seems Baby Z and her family are getting ready to take a little trip to  Myrtle Beach later this month and the way I see it, a girl’s just gotta have a couple of cute new outfits for the beach, right?

So… when I saw this darling little number (at right), an Open Back Dress with a Ruffle Diaper Cover by Tie Dye Diva Patterns, I knew I’d found the perfect outfit for our little gal! It was a pdf pattern, which I’m not normally crazy about, but since Baby Z is so tiny there really wasn’t much to download so it wasn’t a big deal.

And since Moda sent me SO many samples from Pat Sloan’s “One for You, One for Me” fabric line, I narrowed my choices down to a few selections (at left) and started to work!

Once I had my pattern pieces taped together, the little dress and diaper cover were BOTH a pretty easy make. The directions were well-written and the diagrams were easy to understand. if I had pushed myself, (which I didn’t) I could have finished both pieces in one day and that includes the cutting out and the hand-sewing.

140704a Admittedly, I did take a few small liberties with the little dress, changing the construction just a tad in order to avoid most of the hand-sewing, but it made no difference in the finished look. Overall I enjoyed both projects a LOT! One extra plus about this dress is that it’s reversible… a big plus with a baby dress. If she spits up, it’s no big deal, we just turn the dress inside out and continue on!  🙂  The open back is adorable and gives a little flirty look at the ruffled diaper cover.

That’s the good news… and now for the not so good part!

Even though the ruffled diaper cover is pictured in with the dress on the pattern cover, it is not included in the pattern package. The designer does mention this in the pattern description on her website, but since the price for this tiny little dress pattern was $7.95, and given that it was a downloadable pattern, the price seems a bit steep, especially since the price for the additional diaper cover pattern was another $7.95.

140704eHmmmmm……I really thought that one of the primary advantages of pdf patterns was that they were so much CHEAPER than hard copy patterns. Was I wrong?

So this is making me start to wonder…..

Does this mean that our patterns are UNDER-priced, or that these patterns were over-priced? I guess only you can be the judge of that, but all I know is, when I look at this beautiful little girl, it was worth it to ME!  🙂
